125km on North Saskatchewan (12 hrs, rain, wind, and snow) from Drayton Valley to Devon Bridge. As part of our training for the 2004 Yukon River Quest we tried to do this paddle non-stop but because of a late start (noon) and the wind and rain and darkness we flopped into the tent at 10pm. We woke at just before dawn the next day and paddled the final 20km to the Devon bridge though a fresh snowfall from the night before. We saw elk, deer, eagles, and some chicks (in a white clipper). This stretch of water in June is very easy paddling with nothing greater that a class 1. The flow was pretty decent and if it weren't for the wind we would have clipped along at 10 to 14km/hr while paddling. |
